Studying Writing and Digital Media at Penn State Berks has allowed me to see how words and visuals can work together to tell stories that matter. Each assignment and project has challenged me to think deeply about audience, tone, and message, helping me grow as a creator. Through these experiences, I learned how to turn ideas into clear and engaging communication. I now carry that knowledge forward, ready to use it in meaningful and creative ways within the marketing field.
For this assignment, I analyzed Emma Chamberlain’s podcast Anything Goes to better understand the format, style and purpose of modern podcasts. The task was to reflect on her episodes and examine how she engages her audience through relatability, a casual presentation and openness about mental health. Through this analysis I learned how podcasts can create personal connections with listeners and provide both entertainment and meaningful discussion. This experience was significant because it showed me the impact of how audio narratives can influence and affect an audience. In the future, I can craft podcasts that truly connect with listeners thanks to the lessons I have learned from Emma Chamberlain.
I interviewed Danielle Moore, the marketing director at LCBC Church, to learn about the communication and writing skills required in her role. This writing piece was organized in the form of a memo to my professor. The task was to ask about her daily responsibilities, how she works with and leads her team, and how she adjusts her messaging for unique audiences at LCBC Church. From this interview I learned that effective marketing requires clear communication, flexibility, and understanding your audience along with hands-on problem-solving when issues arise. This experience gave me real-world insight into how a marketing leader plans projects and ensures messaging aligns with both the mission and the audience’s needs. I am now knowledgeable on what it takes to lead a team in a marketing setting and am prepared to move into a marketing job with this in mind.
Reflecting on marketing positions through this paper allowed me to analyze both entry-level and evolving roles in the field and consider how my skills align with them. The assigned task was to research multiple marketing jobs and related sources to determine if this career path was a good fit for me. Through this process, I learned that marketing requires a balance of creativity, analytical thinking, technological literacy, and adaptability, and that the pace of the work is fast and constantly changing. This research clarified my expectations for the profession and strengthened my desire to pursue a marketing career, knowing what challenges and opportunities to anticipate. Moving forward, I am prepared to apply my skills and experiences in professional roles, confident in my ability to adapt, communicate effectively, and contribute meaningfully to a marketing team.
